Looking for a specific quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker? This page lists every confirmed quest and activity in the game (version 1.0), grouped the way the game itself groups them. For the recommended order to play them in, see the main quest walkthrough; for how the Boyar activities unlock the boss duels, see the court activities guide.

How Quests Work in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Three rules explain 90% of the quest system:

  • Time is the currency. Each day has 16 time segments (8 day, 8 night); most court activities cost 3, quick cellar runs cost 1. Travel and training spend them too.
  • Quests do not expire. Side content never fails because the clock moved — only the overall 30-day family limit is real, and a focused run finishes in under 10 days.
  • The court menu is the real quest log. Boyar activities are tracked there, and the Boyar anger meters live there too.

Main Story Quests

The spine of the game, in order:

  1. All Good Things — the prologue opening in Laslea Glen
  2. Withering Away — Esme’s medicine: hot water and three spoonfuls of herbs
  3. Sacred Covenant — closes the village tutorial
  4. Bad Blood — the disaster that opens the world
  5. Smoke and Ashes — early story beat in the valley
  6. The Gilded Gauntlet — the Ambrus duel (unlocked by his anger)
  7. The Lunar Game — the Bakir duel (unlocked by his anger)
  8. The Cycle of Love — the Xanthe duel, or her deal (unlocked by her anger)
  9. A Deal with the Devil — the final quest; its dialogue picks your ending

Ambrus: Court Activities & Main Quests

Ambrus’s operation runs on blood and prisoners. His chains:

  • Ambrus’s TransportsBloody Business, Roadside Surprise
  • Ambrus’s CollectorsBounty of the Mire, Wetland Helpers, Unsavoury Solutions (destroy leech barrels)
  • Ambrus’s PrisonersLucky Crossing, Fate’s Mercy (road ambushes)
  • Ambrus’s CellarsSeeing Red, Uninvited, Trouble Brewing (1 time segment each)

  • The Bittersweet Toast — Iulian Codrin’s poison plot before the duel (see the Ambrus boss guide)
  • The Gilded Gauntlet — the duel itself

Bakir: Court Activities & Main Quest

The Mad Khan’s court runs on games, payoffs, and public punishment:

  • Bakir’s HeadhuntersMatter of Honour, Silent to the Grave, Smoke Them Out
  • Bakir’s TransportsCurious Shipment, Fool’s Gold (spare the soldiers for a treasure map)
  • Bakir’s DistilleriesEnds and Means, Coercion and Duress, Offshoot

  • The Lunar Game — the duel where Bakir dies inside his own game (see the Bakir boss guide)
  • The Ring — Bakir’s arena; winning fights here is part of dismantling his legend

Xanthe: Court Activities & Main Quest

Xanthe’s operation is the most covert of the three:

  • Xanthe’s RecruitersTaste of Power (a choice here can earn you the legendary Phial of Brencis’s Blood)
  • Ancient Digsites
  • Abducted Girls
  • Artefact Transports
  • Blood Guard Mentors
  • Gargoyle Manufacture
  • Home Sweet Home — the Silts Tower dream loop (see the endings guide)
  • The Cycle of Love — her duel, or her deal (see the Xanthe boss guide)

Ally Questlines (They Decide Your Ending)

These are technically side content, but they function as ending prerequisites — finishing them decides who stands beside you in the final quest:

  • Lacra’s chainA Friend Like This, Song of the Mountain, A Mother’s Plea (hidden and missable — see below), The Heart Wants What It Wants, Hive and Seek, Our Rotten Roots, The Night of Horrors, Midnight Reckoning
  • Crake & the Manumit chainThe Firebrand, Shadows in the Woods, Where Loyalty Lies, What Hunts the Night, What Moves the Dead, Who Pulls the Strings, then Rise at Dawn / Fall Before Dusk

About A Mother’s Plea: it is hidden, missable, and time-sensitive. It only activates inside Lacra’s chain — after A Friend Like This and Song of the Mountain, the Uriash village elder gives it to you, and it requires finding Osha (The Heart Wants What It Wants). If you are completionist, do Lacra’s chain early and in order.

Standalone Side Quests

  • Laslea GlenPage-Turner, Like Father, Like Son, Bandit’s Treasure Map: Laslea Glen
  • Briar SloughsLive Bait, Someone Needs a Lesson, Dead Drop, Disturbed
  • Maragir WealdsDeep Down, Enter Not, Blasphemy
  • ElsewhereOn the Run, If a Tree Falls in a Forest…

Plus named character questlines tracked separately: the Sanzhani chain (The Tsarina’s Favourite Human), the St. Mihai chain, Misery Loves Company, the Vicho chain (The Unquenchable Thirst, The Outcast), and the Anca chain (Sins of the Past).

Frequently Asked Questions

How many quests are in The Blood of Dawnwalker? Dozens, depending on how you count court activities and their sub-quests. The list above covers every confirmed quest in version 1.0; new quests added by patches will be added here.

Which quests can I miss? A Mother’s Plea is the standout — hidden inside Lacra’s chain and easy to skip past. The early endings (A Hero They Deserve and Together Forever) are technically things you can do, not miss. Everything else stays available until the final quest.

Do I need to finish every quest for the best ending? No — you need both ally questlines finished before A Deal with the Devil, plus the dialogue choice for the ending you want. Full details in the endings guide.
