How to Beat Xanthe in The Blood of Dawnwalker (The Cycle of Love Guide)
Xanthe boss guide for The Blood of Dawnwalker: how to unlock The Cycle of Love duel, and why dealing with her instead of killing her changes the endgame.
Xanthe is the third of the three Boyars in The Blood of Dawnwalker and the one whose boss quest breaks the pattern set by Ambrus and Bakir. Her duel, The Cycle of Love, can be unlocked the same way as the others — by working through her court activities until her anger peaks — but what makes Xanthe unique is that the duel itself is optional. You can kill her, or you can make a deal with her. This guide covers both routes and what each one changes.

Who Xanthe Is
The three Boyars each run a different slice of the vampire court’s power. Ambrus rules through force and formal duels; Bakir, the Mad Khan, turns cruelty into games; Xanthe’s domain is seduction and manipulation — her operation runs on recruiters, abducted girls, artefact transports, and gargoyle manufacture rather than brute patrols. That personality carries into her boss quest: where Ambrus demands a duel and Bakir dies inside his own game, Xanthe is willing to talk.
Her court activity chains include Blood Guard Recruiters, Ancient Digsites, Abducted Girls, Artefact Transports, Blood Guard Mentors, and Gargoyle Manufacture, plus the memorable Home Sweet Home activity, which traps you in a looping dream at the top of Silts Tower (escaping it the right way even nets you the legendary Astrologer’s Ring — see the endings guide for how that loop works).
How to Unlock The Cycle of Love
The unlock works exactly like the other two Boyars:
- Open the Court menu and complete Xanthe’s activity chains across the regions — roughly three-quarters of them is enough to push her anger to the maximum, the same threshold at which Ambrus cracks.
- When her anger meter maxes out, The Cycle of Love appears as a main quest.
- Save before starting it. This is one of the decisions in The Blood of Dawnwalker that genuinely deserves a fresh manual save, because the choice at the end is permanent for that run.
Each court activity costs time segments — most cost 3 of the day’s 16 — so budget your evenings. The 30-day family limit is generous if you cluster her activities by region instead of criss-crossing the map.
The Choice: Kill Xanthe or Make a Deal
At the climax of The Cycle of Love, Xanthe does something the other Boyars never do: she offers terms. You can go through with the duel and kill her, or accept her deal and walk away.
- Kill Xanthe: the threat is removed permanently, the same as Ambrus and Bakir. Clean, complete, and irreversible.
- Deal with Xanthe: she survives, and — this is the important part — she repays the deal during the final assault on Greifberg Castle, changing the final dungeon in your favor. The main quest walkthrough flags this as one of the decisions that reshapes the endgame.
Neither route locks you out of any ending: the ending is decided in the final quest’s dialogue and by the two ally questlines, not by Xanthe’s fate. The deal is simply the stronger strategic play — an extra ally inside Greifberg Castle is worth more than the satisfaction of a third duel.
Fight Tips If You Choose to Duel
If you do fight Xanthe, treat the duel with the same discipline as the other Boyar duels: dodge first, punish second, never trade hits, and arrive with every skill point from her activity chains already spent. Detailed phase-by-phase breakdowns of her attack strings are still being community-verified — check back after the first major speedrun resources settle. The fundamentals that carry the Ambrus duel — Perfect Blocks, patience through unblockable strings, and zero greed — are the right foundation here.
After The Cycle of Love
With Xanthe resolved — one way or the other — all three Boyars are dealt with. Your Infamy hits its maximum, the Edict cutscene plays, and Brencis summons you for the final quest, A Deal with the Devil. Before you answer that summons, run the endgame checklist: finish Lacra’s and Crake’s questlines, spend your skill points, and make your master save. The Brencis boss guide explains exactly what the final fight looks like with each possible ally at your side.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you skip the Xanthe fight entirely? Yes — making a deal with her during The Cycle of Love counts as neutralizing her threat, no duel required. She is the only Boyar with a peaceful resolution.
Does sparing Xanthe change the ending? No. Endings are decided by the final quest’s dialogue and the Lacra/Crake questlines. Her deal changes the final assault on Greifberg Castle, not the ending menu.
What is the best order for the three Boyars? Any order works. PowerPyx’s walkthrough suggests Xanthe around level 25+, after Ambrus (level 1+) and Bakir (level 20+), but the game never forces a sequence.
